StatSheet's SEC Player of the Week for February 4th goes to Kentucky's Kyle Wiltjer. StatSheet's SEC Freshman of the Week goes to Kentucky's Nerlens Noel. And last but not least, Kyle Wiltjer from Kentucky takes home StatSheet's SEC 6th Man of the Week. Wiltjer tallied big numbers in shooting (50%), rebounding (6 per game), and scoring (18 pts per game). The Kentucky sophomore played well for the Wildcats in victories against 16th ranked Ole Miss and Texas A&M.
Wiltjer topped all scoring and rebounding for the Wildcats with 26 points and 7 rebounds in an 87-74 shocker against Ole Miss. He followed that up with 5 rebounds and 3 blocked shots in a narrow 72-68 victory over Texas A&M.
This is the first time that Kyle Wiltjer has been named the StatSheet SEC Player of the Week. The runner-up this week is Marshall Henderson, a junior from Ole Miss. Honorable mention goes to senior Julius Mays from Kentucky. Trevor Lacey was the highest ranking player from Alabama, finishing 18th.
StatSheet SEC Freshman of the Week: Kentucky's Nerlens Noel
Nerlens Noel played an average of 38 minutes as a starter for Kentucky. He led all SEC freshmen in both rebounding (10.5 per game) and blocked shots (7.0 per game). In the win over Ole Miss, Noel topped the Wildcats in rebounding with 7 and tossed in 12 blocked shots. Then in the win against Texas A&M, he led all scoring and rebounding, putting up 19 points and 14 rebounds.
Nerlens Noel has won the StatSheet SEC Freshman of the Week an astounding 5 times. The runner-up is Archie Goodwin from Kentucky. Michael Qualls from Arkansas receives honorable mention.
StatSheet SEC 6th Man of the Week: Kentucky's Kyle Wiltjer
Kyle Wiltjer, a sophomore and a 6-10 forward, averaged 33 minutes over the two games for the Wildcats. In the win against Ole Miss, Wiltjer led the way for the Wildcats with 26 points and 7 rebounds. During the win against Texas A&M, he racked up 5 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.
This is the first StatSheet SEC 6th Man of the Week honor for Kyle Wiltjer. Earnest Ross, a junior guard from Missouri, is runner up. Our own Andrew Steele receives honorable mention. Alabama has yet to win StatSheet SEC Player of the Week.
